During the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial the cabin was purchased and rebuilt, using original logs when possible. Restoration and construction of the cabin was a Bicentennial project of Berkeley County and West Virginia. Landscaping was by the Shenandoah-Potomac Garden Council. The Cool Spring Amphitheater, adjacent to the cabin, was purchased in 1980 to be used for special events and activities. The cabin is owned by the Berkeley County Historic Landmark’s Commission and is administered by the Historic Morgan Cabin Association.
The cabin was reconstructed with the use of original logs that were solid. The whole south wall has the original logs set in place. A log which opened on the north wall to shoot at Indians was included in the restoration. The cabin was completed on July 13, 1977.
In 1994, it was necessary to cover the outside of the cabin with Western Cedar siding to avoid further deterioration of the logs. The original logs remain exposed on the inside of the cabin.
